About Our President

Gloria Jean Sweet-Love is a subscribing Diamond Life member of the Haywood County Branch NAACP.  

She was elected as State Conference President in 1995 and has served with distinction since that time.   


Under her leadership, a State Conference Office was opened and staff employed.  She has re-activated branches & chartered Youth & College units across the state.  She has been the recipient of the Kelly Miller Alexander President’s Award for excellence in Programs, Development and Growth of Branches and Youth Leadership.  Under her guidance, the State Conference has received the prestigious Thalheimer Award for outstanding programs in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.


Gloria, currently serves as Chair of the Southeast Region NAACP Leadership Caucus, which consists of leadership from seven (7) states; Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.  She was elected to the NAACP National Board of Directors in 2009.  She currently serves as Chair of Memberships & Units Committee, Vice Chair of the Personnel Committee and serves on the Resolutions and Election Supervisory Committees.


Gloria is a tireless Advocate who seeks to build coalitions with like minded Advocates. She has served as a Commissioner of TN POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Commission and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, where she has served as Community Ambassador.  


She is a founding member of the TN Education Equity Alliance and a passionate Education, Civil Rights, Criminal and Social Justice Champion. 


Gloria believes that being a Servant is her mission. She is a member of the St John Missionary Baptist Church in Stanton-Dancyville, Tennessee, where she has served as Sunday School Superintendent for more than a decade.  She also serves as Chair of the Women’s Ministry for West Tennessee Hardeman County Baptist Missionary and Education Association. Gloria is a Licensed and Ordained Gospel Preacher.
