The NAACP fights for your civil rights

This Is Who We Are

The Tennessee Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is a not-for-profit association of Civil Rights Advocacy units across the state of Tennessee. Its mission is to foster excellence and equity in legislation through advocacy leadership. Tennessee NAACP achieves that mission by representing the units perspective before state government agencies and partnering with other organizations that believe in education, health care, economics, and labor; and by providing vital information and services to individual units throughout the state.

This is What We Do

Tennessee NAACP advocates local units as the ultimate expression of grassroots democracy. Tennessee NAACP supports the capacity of each Branch, Youth Council and College Chapter acting on behalf of and in close concert with the people of its community; (a) to envision the future of effective government in its community; (b) to establish a structure and environment that allows all citizens to reach their maximum potential; (c) to provide accountability for the community on performance of the General Assembly, and to serve as the key community advocate for those nameless and faceless individuals whom they serve.

Our shared vision is a powerful, united, energetic association- an influential advocate and a catalyst for aligning the power of the community on behalf of its citizens. Working in partnership with its members, NAACP has embraced four fundamental strategic goals in order to fulfill its mission of equity and excellence in public policy through effective legislation and leadership:

* Every Branch/Unit will lead its community in preparing all students to succeed in a rapidly changing global society by insuring equity and excellence in education.

* Tennesseans will value and invest in Health Care for all Tennesseans, and actively support and understand the critical role of community/advocacy as essential for the preservation of a democratic society.

*State legislatures, the courts, and other decision makers will support policies and provide resources to strengthen economics by supporting a living wage and other critical labor issues.
